Nur Muhammadi Before the dawn of time, before the existence of the 18,000 worlds, before the planets were set in their orbits and the galaxies began to swirl—there was nothing. Nothing, except the singular, eternal existence of Allah (SWT).
In this state of absolute oneness, Allah Ta’ala willed to be known. He desired a creation that would recognize His Majesty, witness His Power, and praise His Glory. And so, from His own Divine Light, Allah brought forth the very first creation: the primordial light of His most beloved, the Nur Muhammadi (the Light of Muhammad ﷺ).
This is the story of that first light—a cosmic journey through celestial veils that predates the universe itself and establishes the supreme station of Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) as the soul of all creation.
The First Praise and the Celestial Veils
The moment this blessed Light was created, it recognized its Creator. Filled with awe, it immediately began to praise and glorify Allah. For millions of years, this was the only act of worship in existence—a pure, singular praise from the first creation to the only Creator.
Allah Ta’ala was so pleased with this praise that He decided to grant this Light an even higher station. By His command, twelve magnificent veils (Hijabs) were created, and the Nur Muhammadi was commanded to journey through them, glorifying Allah in each for thousands of years.
These were the Twelve Veils of Glorification:
-
The Veil of Power (Hijab al-Qudrah): For 12,000 years, the Light recited: “Subhanal Aliyyil A’la” (Glory be to the Most High, the Exalted).
-
The Veil of Majesty (Hijab al-Azmah): For 11,000 years, it recited: “Subhana Alim as-Sirri wa Akhfa” (Glory be to the Knower of the secret and what is more hidden).
-
The Veil of Honor (Hijab al-Izzah): For 10,000 years, it recited: “Subhanal Malikil Mannan” (Glory be to the Sovereign, the Bestower of Favors).
-
The Veil of the Unseen (Hijab al-Ghaibah): For 9,000 years, it recited: “Subhanallahi wa bi Hamdihi, Subhanallahil Adheem” (Glory and praise be to Allah, Glory be to Allah the Almighty).
-
The Veil of Might (Hijab al-Jabarut): For 8,000 years, it recited: “Subhanal Karim al-Akram” (Glory be to the Most Generous, the Most Honorable).
-
The Veil of Mercy (Hijab ar-Rahmah): For 7,000 years, it recited: “Subhana Rabbil Arshil Adheem” (Glory be to the Lord of the Mighty Throne).
-
The Veil of Prophethood (Hijab an-Nabuwwah): For 6,000 years, it recited: “Subhana Rabbika Rabbil Izzati amma yasifun” (Glory be to your Lord, the Lord of Honor, above what they describe).
-
The Veil of Grandeur (Hijab al-Kibriya): For 5,000 years, it recited: “Subhanal Adheem al-A’dham” (Glory be to the Great, the Most Great).
-
The Veil of Status (Hijab al-Manzilah): For 4,000 years, it recited: “Subhanal Aleem al-Kareem” (Glory be to the All-Knowing, the Most Generous).
-
The Veil of Exaltation (Hijab ar-Rif’ah): For 3,000 years, it recited: “Subhana Dhil Mulki wal Malakut” (Glory be to the Owner of the Dominion and the Kingdom).
-
The Veil of Felicity (Hijab as-Sa’adah): For 2,000 years, it recited: “Subhana man yazulul ashya’u wa la yazul” (Glory be to Him whose essence remains while all things perish).
-
The Veil of Intercession (Hijab ash-Shafa’ah): For 1,000 years, it recited: “Subhana Rabbil Adheemi wa bi Hamdihi” (Glory and praise be to my Lord, the Almighty).
From the Light: The Genesis of the Cosmos
After this long journey of praise, Allah Ta’ala, pleased with His beloved’s worship, decided to create the universe. He took the Nur Muhammadi and divided it into five parts. From these parts, the very fabric of our reality was woven:
-
From the first part, Allah created the Throne (Arsh).
-
From the second part, He created the Heavens.
-
From the third part, He created the Moon and the Earths.
-
From the fourth part, He created the Sun and the Stars.
-
From the fifth part, Allah created Light (Nur) itself, to illuminate the universe.
Everything in creation, from the grandest throne to the smallest particle, was thus born from the essence of the Prophet’s ﷺ light. Before this, the universe was shrouded in darkness, awaiting the light of its soul.

The Pen and the Divine Proclamation
After creating the Throne, Allah created the Preserved Tablet (Lauh al-Mahfuz) and the Pen (Qalam). He commanded the Pen, “Write!” The Pen asked, “O Lord of all the worlds, what shall I write?”
Allah commanded, “Begin with my Name. Write: La ilaha illallah, Muhammadur Rasulullah (There is no god but Allah, Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah).”
Upon hearing the name ‘Muhammad’ joined with the name of Allah, the Pen was filled with awe and asked, “O Allah, who is this person of such high rank whose name you have written alongside Your own?”
Allah Ta’ala replied, “O Pen, know his station. He is My beloved, the first to worship Me in existence. If not for him, I would not have created anything. When there was no one to praise Me, this Light of Muhammad praised Me.”
The Soul of the Universe
This profound narrative teaches us a fundamental truth: the universe was created as an expression of Allah’s love for Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ). He is the first of all creations in his spiritual reality and the last of the prophets in his physical form. He is the very soul of existence.
As a poet beautifully encapsulated this reality:
“Woh jo na thay to kuch na tha, woh jo na ho to kuch na ho,
Jaan hain woh jahaan ki, jaan hai to jahaan hai.”(If he was not, there was nothing. If he were not, nothing would be.
He is the soul of the universe; if the soul exists, the universe exists.)
We pray that Allah Ta’ala allows us to truly understand the magnificent station of His Beloved Prophet ﷺ and grants us the ability to live and die in his love. Ameen.
